Sheltunes History
Sheltune is a family business well known throughout Northamptonshire and beyond,
Established in 1969 at 134 Kingsley park terrace on the Kettering road by Peter and his wife Daphne Shelton with the help of their eldest son Vin Shelton.
Earlier in 1969 Peter (a joiner by trade) who already had a large following of car enthusiast through his successful motor-racing career of a Mk 1 Cortina and his eldest son VIN were shop fitting in soon to be rival premises. After hearing some miss guided information being given to a customer, a thought crossed their minds. Maybe with the expertise, knowledge and hard working ethic’s selling motor spares and repairing cars would be the right way to go.
So it was in September 1969 “Sheltune” was created. A small terrace house was converted by the family into their dream, while peter and Vin still working full time to keep their heads above water financially.
Soon after the shop became busy, younger son john joined the fold followed by numerous members of staff some of which still here today.
Expansion was necessary for success, the terrace house adjoining the property was purchased and the corner property soon followed. An engineering workshop was created out the back with various machinery, also an electrical workshop reconditioning and repairing starter motors and alternators.
Peter Shelton retired from Sheltune in 1984, shortly afterwards John Shelton decided to pursue his interests in another business venture.
Vin soon decided he wanted to offer a repair service for Sheltune’s customers. The modern car was becoming more and more complex for the average car D.I.Y ER, workshop lifts were installed this proved to be a huge success.
Vin’s two son’s Aarron Shelton and Nathan Shelton had followed their father’s and grandfather’s passion for car’s and joined the family business in the late 1990’s.
In 2005 the family made a decision the business needed to greatly expand. A site was purchased on the Kettering road north. Vin was site manager and helped to build the service centre.
Sheltune today is a long way away from Sheltune in 1969. There are two centres. Kingsley Park Terrace is run by Vin’s youngest son Aarron, the Service centre on Kettering road north is ran by Vin’s eldest son Nathan.
Between them they offer 12 vehicle lifts, 2 of the latest MOT test lanes, an enormous stock of tyres, brakes, filters, car batteries and most parts and accessories for all cars. Both centres have modern fitted waiting areas with sofa’s, TV and complimentary tea and coffee.
The shop still provides motor spares and accessories for the dedicated car D.I.Y ER.
Our Values at Sheltune remain the same. Knowledgeable, helpful, friendly staff always here to assist you the motorist
